Return to p. 26 of the Hymnal, to sing “Holy God . . . .”

EPISTLE –2nd Timothy 3:10-15 (Saint Thekla) Timothy, my son, you have observed my teaching, my conduct, my aim in life, my faith, my patience, my love, my steadfastness, my persecutions, my sufferings, what befell me at Antioch, at lconion, and at Lystra, what persecutions I endured; yet from them all the Lord rescued me. Indeed all who desire to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted, while evil men and impostors will go on from bad to worse, deceivers and deceived. But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have firmly believed, knowing from whom you learned it and how from childhood you have been acquainted with the sacred writings which are able to instruct you for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus.

GOSPEL –Luke 5:1-11 (1st Luke) At that time, Jesus was standing by the lake of Gennesaret. And he saw two boats by the lake; but the fishermen had gone out of them and were washing their nets. Getting into one of the boats, which was Simon's, he asked him to put out a little from the land. And he sat down and taught the people from the boat. And when he had ceased speaking, he said to Simon, "Put out into the deep and let down your nets for a catch." And Simon answered, "Master, we toiled all night and took nothing! But at your word I will let down the nets." And when they had done this, they enclosed a great shoal of fish; and as their nets were breaking, they beckoned to their partners in the other boat to come and help them. And they came and filled both the boats, so that they began to sink. But when Simon Peter saw it, he fell down at Jesus' knees, saying, "Depart from me, for I am a sinful man, O Lord." For he was astonished, and all who were with him, at the catch of fish which they had taken; and so also were James and John, sons of Zebedee, who were partners with Simon. And Jesus said to Simon, "Do not be afraid; henceforth you will be catching men." And when they had brought their boats to land, they left everything and followed him.

The day after a prayer service at church,  Mary says that the treatment is working and she has stopped “seeing double,” but that the treatments must continue. In order that the radiation targets precisely where the tumor is, she must wear a striking head mask to keep her head absolutely still. She has sent us a photo, which you will see on page 6. We pray for her rapid recovery.

PARISH COUNCIL: The Parish Council of Christ the Savior Church met at its re-scheduled regular meeting for September on Wednesday, Septem-ber13, 2006 at 7 p.m., chaired by President Gloria Vardakis. Treasure George Nikas presented an updated financial report and announced that as of this month, the Building Fund has now been placed in a separate account, separate from the operating funds of the church. It was voted to offer guest speakers at the Parish Educational Programs (P.E.P.) a modest gift honoring their presentations. The St. Petersburg Times –Hernando Edition New Comers edition ad was approved. The plan to reduce the number of names on the mailing list has been approve implemented. Pinecrest Funeral Home is once again sponsoring our Church Calendar for 2007. The Archdiocese Calender has been ordered. President Gloria Vardakis raised the question of the unsold Metropolis Diakonia magazines. It was voted to pay for the 25 copies sent to us, but to ask that the number be reduced in the future. Hernando County has inspected our well and found it safe, but has informed us of the need for a pressure gage and a check valve. Vice President John Tsausis will follow through. The bathroom conditions are unacceptable and a committee of Gloria Vardakis, Carol Gymnaos and Helen Vangel volun-teered to correct the situation. The President prepared straws to determine by lot the terms of office of the three new members of the Parish Council. The results were: Terms of office to the end of 2006, Carol Gymnaos and Helen Vangel; term of office to the end of 2008, Nick Maroulis. Helen and Carol were strongly encouraged to be candidates in the December, 2006 election for the class of 2009. The roof of the pantry is leaking. Carol Gymnaos will look into its repair. The announced proposed Hernando County tax assessment for next year in the amount of $5,209.39 has been appealed to the county authorities. We are waiting for a hearing date. The Treasurer reported that our property insurance has been renewed at the annual premium of $5,800. Alex Nomikos, our Architect has prepared some sample kitchen designs for the new hall. They will be reviewed by the Planning and Build-ing Committee and sent out for review. The Parish Council will meet on Saturday, October 7 at 1:00 p.m. to work on the requirement that our Parish By-Laws be revised to conform with the Atlanta Metropolis Model Parish By-Laws. Bill Pasisis announced that a full color multi-dimensional render-ing of the new building and hall is being prepared by our architect.
