William Pasisis,
Chair, 2004 Stewardship Committee
certain Christian once said to her friend, “Our Church costs too much. They are always asking for money.” “Some time ago a boy was born in our home,” replied her friend. “He cost us a lot of money from the very beginning: he had a big appetite, he needed clothes, toys, medicine, and even a puppy. Then he went to school, and that cost a lot more. Later he went to college and that cost a small fortune! But in his senior year at college he died, and since the funeral he has not cost us a penny. Now, which situation do you think I would rather have?” After a significant pause, she continued, “As long as this Church lives, it will cost. When it dies for want of support, it won’t cost us anything. A living Church has the most vital message for the entire world today. Therefore I am going to pray and give with everything I have to keep our Church alive and growing. Are you helping to keep our Church alive and growing by giving generously of your Time, Talents and Treasure? If we do not support our Church generously, we may not have a Parish in the future. Maybe we should add another “T” to the three “T”s of Stewardship. That is, “Truth.” Truth in Stewardship means that we make an honest effort to focus on the call of Christ to commit to “Praying,” to “Working,” and to “Giving” so that the Body of Christ, the Church, may live and fulfill her mission. Stewardship encourages support for the Church’s work, not because it is a responsibility, but a privilege. True commitment to your Church begins sacrificially. It is right and proper that our Orthodox Christian offering be equitable and fair to our Church, which would help meet our budget for 2004. Let us give to our Church out of the many blessings that God has bestowed on each of us. Please consider increasing your Stewardship Good Faith Declaration for Time, Talent, and Treasure! We are asking you to consider increasing your Declaration of Intention by 10% for 2004. Let us pray and give to keep our Church alive and growing! rethren, he who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and he who sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. Each one must do as he has made up his mind, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. And God is able to provide you with every blessing in abundance, so that you may always have enough of everything and may provide in abundance for every good work. As it is written, "He scatters abroad, he gives to the poor; his righteousness endures for ever." He who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will supply and multiply your resources and increase the harvest of your righteousness. You will be enriched in every way for great generosity, which through us will produce thanksgiving to God. GOSPEL – Luke 7:11-16
t that time, Jesus went to a city called Nain, and his disciples and a great crowd went with him. As he drew near to the gate of the city, behold, a man who had died was being carried out, the only son of his mother, and she was a widow; and a large crowd from the city was with her. And when the Lord saw her, he had compassion on her and said to her, "Do not weep." And he came and touched the bier, and the bearers stood still. And he said, "Young man, I say to you, arise." And the dead man sat up, and began to speak. And he gave him to his mother. Fear seized them all; and they glorified God, saying, "A great prophet has arisen among us!" and "God has visited his people!"
