SUMMER THOUGHTS – 7 “FARMER WISDOM”

+Your fences need to be horse high, pig  tight and bull strong.

+Life ain't about how fast you run, or how  high you climb, but how well you bounce.

+Life is simpler when you plow around the  stump.

+A bumble bee is considerably faster than  a John Deere tractor.

+Words that soak into your ears are  whispered...not yelled.

    +Meanness don't jest happen overnight.

+Forgive your enemies. It messes up their  heads.

+Do not corner something that you know is  meaner than you.

+It don't take a very big person to carry  a grudge.

+You cannot unsay a cruel  word.

+Every path has a few  puddles.

+When you wallow with pigs, expect to get  dirty.

+The best sermons are lived, not  preached.

+Most of the stuff people worry about  ain't never gonna happen anyway.

+Don't judge folks by their  relatives.

+Remember that silence is sometimes the  best answer.

+Live a good, honorable life. Then when  you get older and think back, you'll  enjoy it a second  time.

+Don't interfere with somethin' that  ain't botherin' you none.

+Timing has a lot to do with the outcome  of a rain dance.

+The easiest way to eat crow is while it's  still warm, 'cause the colder it  gets, the harder it is  to swaller.

+If you find yourself in a hole, the first  thing to do is stop diggin'.

+It don't take a genius to spot a goat in  a flock of sheep.

+Sometimes you get, and sometimes you get  got.

+If you get to thinkin' you're a person of  some influence, try orderin'  somebody else's dog around.

+ Always drink upstream from the  herd.

+Good judgment comes from experience, and  a lotta that comes from bad judgment.

+Lettin' the cat outta the bag is a whole  lot easier than puttin' it back in. (Selected)

Return to p. 26 of the Hymnal, to sing “Holy God . . . .”

EPISTLE – Romans 10:1-10(5th Matthew) +Brethren, my heart's desire and prayer to God for them is that they may be saved. I bear them witness that they have a zeal for God, but it is not enlightened. For, being ignorant of the righteousness that comes from God, and seeking to establish their own, they did not submit to God's righteousness. For Christ is the end of the law, that every one who has faith may be justified. Moses writes that the man who practices the righteousness which is based on the law shall live by it. But the righteousness based on faith says, Do not say in your heart, "Who will ascend into heaven?" (that is, to bring Christ down) or "Who will descend into the abyss?" (that is, to bring Christ up from the dead). But what does it say? The word is near you, on your lips and in your heart (that is, the word of faith which we preach); because, if you confess with your lips that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For man believes with his heart and so is justified, and he confesses with his lips and so is saved.

GOSPEL – Matthew 8:28-9:1 (5th Matthew) +At that time, when Jesus came to the other side, to the country of the Gergesenes, two demoniacs met him, coming out of the tombs, so fierce that no one would pass that way. And behold, they cried out, "What have you to do with us, O Son of God? Have you come here to torment us before the time?" Now a herd of many swine was feeding at some distance from them. And the demons begged him, "If you cast us out, send us away into the herd of swine." And he said to them, "Go." So they came out and went into the swine; and behold, the whole herd rushed down the steep bank into the sea, and perished in the waters. The herdsmen fled, and going into the city they told everything, and what had happened to the demoniacs. And behold, all the city came out to meet Jesus; and when they saw him, they begged him to leave their neighborhood. And getting into a boat he crossed over and came to his own city.

DAWN CENTER Director of Programs Shannon Hawke recently wrote to our Church in response to the recent donation from our church. We partner with the Dawn Center to help abused women and their children. In part, she wrote “Dear Members, Thank you for your donation of clothing to support the programs of Dawn Center. It costs Dawn Center $25.00 a day to provide safe shelter for a victim. A family that seeks peace at Dawn Center will find it in many forms. Often when families leave and abuser, the children experience anger and fear (and are assisted) by children’s counselor at Dawn Center. Thank you again for supporting women and families in need.” See the bulletin board in the Parish Hall for the whole interesting letter to our parish.

GOD SHOWS HIS LOVE IN MANY WAYS

When hearts are heavy and hope grows dim,

   Tears may fill our eyes,

   But today’s sorrow could be

   A blessing in disguise.

We cannot know what lies ahead,

But we serve a loving God,

And we always find beside us

   His footprints in the sod.

There are no limitations

On what our God can do,

And He does not turn away

    When earthly friends are few.

When we come into His presence,

   True healing can begin,

For He will send the Comforter

   To make us whole again!

God shows His love in many ways

To all who call His name!
